| 04.01.04 | Thurs | The Killers with Fumare 8:30p, $6, 18+ |
The Killers are a Las Vegas band whose sound is like T-Rex and Ziggy-era Bowie at their most blowsy and histrionic, Psychedelic Furs in the vocal department, and Duran Duran for the cheesy synth parts. Local rockers Fumare start the evening.

| 04.05.04 | Mon | John Vanderslice, Sufjan Stevens and Will Johnson, with Micah Blue Smaldone 8:30p, $7, 18+ |
John Vanderslice is comfortable inside the sputtering sonics of the understated indie rock universe while carving curves and swirls into a pop paper crane. Sufjan Stevens works from a peculiar palette that is simultaneously rock, bluegrass, jazz and pop, a style The Village Voice calls "Arthur Lee meets the Book of Psalms," SPACE favorite Will Johnson returns with a singing style in which pitch and meaning become interchangeable and even irrelevant. Local blues and ragtime man Micah Smaldone warms the stage.
| 04.07.04 | Wed | Del Rey with Conifer 8:30p, $5, 18+ |
Del Rey is characterized by smashing double-drumkits, sprawling cosmic documentaries, and crashing guitar epics, all forcefully punctuated by electronic breakdowns and beatdowns. Conifer creates a sound that reflects the tension between good and evil, between the physical and spiritual, and between selfishness and redemptive love.
| 04.08.04 | Thurs | Glue with Sontiago 9p, $5, 18+ |
From the smoke-filled basement under Ramona's ceiling in Aurora, IL comes "glue," the epitome of dusted groove sounds, conjured from the sleepless nights and struggles with humanity's love for pinball and abandonment. Glue is: Adeem on vocals, DJ DQ handling all scratches, and the mighty Maker responsible for all productions. Sontiago and DJ Mayonaise open.
| 04.09.04 | Fri | Apollo Sunshine with Pete Chamberlain 8:30p, $6, 18+ |
Apollo Sunshine's influences are so broad it's almost misleading to mention any of them. This Boston trio's indie sound has shades of classic rock, 60's pop, 70's prog, and who knows what else. They will entertain you. Pete Chamberlain opens the evening with his special rendition of The Pixies' "Doolittle" on solo piano.

| 04.10.04 | Sat | Dreadnaught CD release party with Paul Bosse and Ryan Foss 8:30p, $5, 18+ |
Dreadnaught is, by all accounts, almost completely insane, and so is their music. It's called progabilly, a genre-forging fusion of old school progressive rock and Americana with a dose of jazz and classical, and has been described as everything from "Zappa meets Yes at Willie Nelson's BBQ" (Soundcheck) to "King Crimson at a hoedown" (Spotlight). Paul J. Bosse (Angry Rodent Records) bangs maniacally on drums, tuned fire extinguishers, & looped percussion, accompanied by Ryan Foss on Saxophones.

| 04.12.04 | Mon | Six Organs of Admittance, Matt Valentin and Joshua Burkett 8:30p, $5, 18+ |
Californian Ben Chasny (aka Six Organs of Admittance) of the psychedelic folk underground features heavily strummed and plucked acoustic guitars and mantric vocal murmurs. Matt Valentine, leader of The Tower Recordings, is one of Free Folk's elder statesmen, playing ragas and blues from another dimension. Joshua Burkett's "fragile and enticing late-night psychedelic folk music is for those not-so-well-balanced people who can still appreciate beauty in its roughest forms."
| 04.15.04 | Thurs | Documentary Films:Treasure Hunters and Divining Mom 7p, $5 suggested donation, All ages |
Director Jonathan M. Harris' documentary 'Treasure Hunters" chronicles a tight-knit and competitive club of metal-detectorists as they search for the buried treasure of their dreams (23m). George Kachadorian's documentary "Divining Mom" explores the tension between Kachadorian's mother, a dowser who uses a forked plastic rod to find water and other things underground, and his father, a civil engineer who thinks she's gone off the deep end (72m).
| 04.16.04 | Fri | Cerberus Shoal and Kayo Dot 8:30p, $6, 18+ |
Ceberus Shoal takes influences from all over to build a slithering, buzzing, cacophony of avant-garde folk insanity. Kayo Dot (on John Zorn's Tzadik label) powerfully integrates elements of modern classical composition with the layers of guitars and vocals more common to rock and metal, creating an exciting convergence of violence and serenity.
