We are not currently hiring for any staff positions, but feel free to check back for updates. Also, did you know that almost all of our current SPACE staff got their start as a SPACE volunteer? Just sayin'... 





SPACE is seeking art-loving web designers for a new website. From our home in downtown Portland, Maine, we host over 15 exhibitions a year, 200 public programs, an artist residency program, 30 artist studios, and a contemporary artist grant program for the state of Maine. Please share our Request for Qualifications for web designers or tag/share the names of relevant designers you've worked with. An invited group of designers will submit proposals for web designs with a paid stipend for their proposals. A PDF of our RFQ is online here.

1- CV, bio, and/or work client list as relevant for an individual or firm

2- Portfolio of past work, PDF with screenshots or live websites/links welcome

3- Estimate on project price range (or examples of comparable projects with final cost) for a complete site redesign, SPACE has a new logo and branding that will be further implemented/does not need to be developed.



The Visual Arts Program at SPACE is committed to providing opportunities for individual artists, both regionally and nationally through exhibitions, talks, residencies and grants. With an focus on artistic excellence, SPACE presents contemporary artwork that favors inventiveness and generates critical dialogue.

SPACE holds open calls for Window Gallery exhibition proposals on a semi-annual basis. Submissions are reviewed on a quarterly basis until the exhibitions calendar has been filled. This next review session will be held on:

Volunteers are an integral part of SPACE. Volunteering can take many forms: gallery sitting, staffing the door at our events, prepping exhibition spaces, or making pancakes in the park. Volunteering at SPACE is a great way to meet people and engage with your local art community.

Our aim is to make the volunteer experience a win-win-win situation. We want to match volunteers with opportunities that engage their interests. We work with volunteers based on availability and desired time commitment. Some folks volunteer once a week, others volunteer once a year.
