In the Window

This is the first iteration of an accumulative project for Maine based artist Rollin Leonard. Life-sized photographs of bodies are face-mounted to over 3,000 1″ by 1″ plexiglas squares. Each block of plexiglas is sanded in four steps and polished until jewel-like. The project has a modular and flexible component to it — pieces can be added and the work can be rearranged each time it is installed.  While the work is installed in the SPACE window it will be subtly rearranged over the course of time, slowly scrambling the forms.

Rollin Leonard earned a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Painting from the University of Minnesota in 2007. He has shown large-scale video installations, paintings, photographic prints, and web-based work since 2004. His medium varies but his conceptual approach is consistent — projecting the logic, meaning, or pattern from one domain into another, often using the human body as a vehicle to do so. His work has been shown at The Photographer’s Gallery in London, Fach & Asendorf Gallery (Internet, Stuttgart, Kassel), various international shows, and at the 2012 NOVA Festival in Sao Paolo. October 2013 Leonard will exhibit this and other large-scale works at Transfer Gallery in Brooklyn New York.
