SLANT

Community event

SLANT

Emily Dickinson famously wrote, “Tell all the truth but tell it slant.” This event will put those words to the test as a series of writers, performers, and notable community members tell real ten-minute stories to a live audience without notes or props. This series is inspired by The Moth, a live storytelling organization established in NYC in 1997 and featured on Maine Public Radio. Storytellers will include Portland Press Herald columnist Bill Nemitz, award-winning non-fiction writer Liz Peavey, performer and educator Gretchen Berg, and longtime Portland arts and cultural booster and unofficial mayor of Commercial Street Cyrus Hagge, among others. Presented by The Telling Room, in association with the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, and SPACE Gallery.
