Pile‘s music has a peculiar way of toying with your sense of nostalgia while simultaneously standing tall as completely unique and original, a feat not often accomplished. In these rare solo performance, Pile’s frontman and songwriter, Rick Maguire performs songs written for electric guitar (with its amplifier on 11) acoustically, somehow without sacrificing any of the intensity and fury that his full band is renowned and loved for.
Footings is the new outlet for the unique songwriting sense of Eric Gagne (Passerine, Redwing Blackbird, Death to Tyrants). His understated style brings to mind the folk paragons, Bill Callahan, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Jason Molina, while exploring a world of sounds entirely of his own.
Nat Baldwin approaches the daunting task of utilizing the upright bass as the instrument of a solo singer-songwriter with delicacy and intensity as only he could. He sings equally as expressively with the bow on the strings of his bass as with his voice. His credentials are numerous, from his decade-long position holding down the low-end with Dirty Projectors to studies with Anthony Braxton to recording sessions with Bjork, Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend and more… However, his music speaks entirely for itself.
GREEF is the crooning wail, the distorted, busted guitar, and warbling cassette tape player of Portland’s own Pete Swegart. His distinctive voice and playing style is known to many from his position fronting the genre-defying doomy quartet Butcher Boy.
