Moving In SPACE: Works in Progress

Moving in SPACE is a new contemporary dance/movement/performance series that will focus on works in progress. The series aims to provide a much needed regional performance opportunity for works in development in the contemporary dance and performance scene. Three artists were selected through an open call by jurors choreographers/dancers Sara Juli, Riley Watts and Asher Woodworth to perform at SPACE's inaugural Moving In SPACE performance. These artists submitted original works that are either in development or have only been performed a few times, and can take advantage of this opportunity for creative improvements. In addition to the performance the performers will participate in Choreolab, which provides an artistic playground for choreographers, dancers and movers, where specific ideas on creation for movement and performance are researched in a peer-to-peer setting.

The performers are:

Sunny Hitt - Sunny is a NYC-based freelance performer, choreographer, teaching artist, rehearsal director, and yoga instructor. She is passionate about experimental performance and inspiring her students to realize their full potential by practicing daily creativity - always with a sense of joy and humor.

Orlando Hernandez - Orlando Hernández is a tap dancer and multidisciplinary performer living in Providence, RI. His recent work combines tap with voice, percussion, text, and projections to explore histories of colonialism, racial violence, and cultural performance, and his experiences within the Puerto Rican diaspora.

Lauren Tosswill - Lauren Tosswill is a Portland-based, multidisciplinary sound and performance artist. She has been performing original solo sound and movement pieces since 2016 and has collaborated on live performance work with Kerry Anderson since 2014. She has performed her work around New England and New York, with plans for a wider east coast tour in the summer of 2018. Her debut record of experimental recordings called "my home in the year" was released in January of 2018 on the label enmossed.
