Madsen Minax

Artist Talk

Madsen Minax

Minax will screen a collection of clips from his projects including segments of the feature narrative Kairos Dirt & the Errant Vacuum, his new essay film The Source is a Hole, and raw in-progress footage for his new documentary in production, At The River. Madsen will discuss the motivating ideas, textual influences, project interconnectivity and the recurrent themes that shape his projects.

Madsen Minax is a filmmaker, visual artist, and musician. Using documentary, improvisation, essay/text and magical realist approaches, Madsen makes works about individual and communal embodiment that draw on his histories of participation in liberatory communities, including the worlds of queer/trans/feminist liberation, prison abolition, and sex workers’ rights. His projects have screened or exhibited at the European Media Art Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Lincoln Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Anthology Film Archives, The British Film Institute, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, REDCAT, SOMArts, Issue Project Room, Yale University, Harvard University, Outfest, Newfest, Frameline, Reeling and dozens of LGBT Film festivals around the world.
